All Terrain Racing

box_256All Terrain Racing (affectionately known as ATR), actually started life as a top-down racer; and was to be the spiritual successor to Nitro.

I began development on the game, after finishing off Qwak, and signed up again with Team17, who already magically had the graphics (by Danny Burke of Body Blows fame) for an isometric perspective racer. The result of this mish-mash … ATR!

Very much a love it or hate it game, people either like it a lot, or hate it! It wasn’t an easy game by any stretch of the imagination, and I think it was better received by the hard-core gamer types. Still, it did receive a lot of very good reviews in the gaming press (despite the odd controversy).

I actually loved this back in the day. Any chance of seeing a remake of it? There are far too few games like this these days.

Thanks fluffy bunny. One of those game people either loved or hate; wasn’t an easy game was it?!

Yeah, a remake (or re-interpretation of the isometric top-down racer genre) is something I’m often considering. So it’s definitely a possibility. In fact, I actually prototyped a ‘rotational isometric’ race on GBA, I’ll post more about that on here at some point.

This game I adored. I had 2 different demos (one winter/xmas themed if I recall) and the full game eventually. Great game.
I hope this sees its way onto DSiWare or the PSP.

Favourite racing game of all time, hands down. Don’t get me wrong, games like Burnout and some of the old Need for Speed games are great, but nothing has ever matched the charm of ATR. Maybe I’m just nostalgic but I don’t mind.

Thanks for your work on this game, and if it ever sees a remake I’d be on it in an instant.
